Why do I use exclamations so often? That is what my students ask me. Apparently my slides are peppered with them. I apparently also use apparently very often.
That latter answers itself easily. It is so much easier to sit on the fence, to equivocate, to be ambivalent...

the way the entry starts out, i am reminded of `the only philosophical question'. heidegger once said `The only genuine philosophical question is why there is something rather than nothing.' which is taken to be a euphemism for `the only real philosophical question is whether to kill yourself.' i think that is what the artist has to contend with, perpetually looking into the self and into the hearts of everyone, without judgement.
